Celebrating 250 Years of Tregenna Castle: A Year of Special Moments Ahead
Celebrating our special milestone
An extraordinary milestone
We have been here for 250 years, and we want to keep going for another 250 (at least!). 2024 marks the celebration of our 250th anniversary.
Our iconic 72-acre resort, comprising hotel rooms, apartments, self-catering properties, two restaurants, a golf course, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, and investment properties, has stood the test of time since its construction two and a half centuries ago.
Sustainability Initiatives
In 2023, Tregenna Castle made a significant investment of £1.5 million in renewable and sustainable energy. The resort now boasts a vast solar array on-site and a gas turbine, resulting in a notable percentage of clean energy consumption. This commitment reflects Tregenna Castle's dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
Historical Ties
Tregenna Castle's story began in 1774 when it was built as a private residence for Samuel Stephens. The property changed hands over the years, eventually falling under the ownership of the Bolitho family in 1871. Notably, the Great Western Railway Company leased and later purchased the castle in the late 19th century, contributing to its expansion and transformation into a destination hotel.
Memorable moments and famous guests
Over its illustrious history, Tregenna Castle has played host to numerous famous faces, including Prince Phillip, Prime Minister John Major, David Attenborough, Dame Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Joanna Lumley, Peter O'Toole, Anthony Joshua, and David Bowie. The resort reached a pinnacle in June 2021 when it became the backdrop for the G7 Summit, hosting world leaders, including USA President Joe Biden.
250 celebration highlights
To mark the 250th anniversary, Tregenna Castle has a lineup of exciting initiatives, including the planting of 250 trees, monthly champagne celebrations for the 250th guest, limited-edition cocktails, modern twists on 18th-century menus, 250 acts of kindness by staff, competitions, and time capsules. These activities aim not only to celebrate the past but to lay the foundation for another 250 years of success.

As Tregenna Castle Resort looks forward to the festivities in 2024, it invites everyone to be part of this historic celebration. Stay tuned for further details on the upcoming initiatives that promise to make the 250th anniversary a year to remember through our website and social media channels.
