Christmas is one of the most magical times of the year to stay in St Ives. Whether you’re planning a festive escape with the whole family or a romantic getaway with someone special there’s nowhere better than Cornwall to enjoy a cosy Christmas escape. Here are some of our favourite things about spending Christmas on the Cornish coast.
Crisp morning walks
St Ives is well known for its beautiful surroundings and there are plenty of places that you can enjoy a picturesque saunter on a sunny Christmas morning.
Tregenna recommends: On Boxing Day, join the hoards of brave swimmers who take a dip in the sea to raise money for charity.
Spectacular festive displays
Each year since 1963, Mousehole Harbour has been the go-to destination for a truly magical spectacle of festive illusions. This year the switch-on will take place on Saturday 14th December, and you’ll be able to see the lights right through til’ 4th January.
Beautiful surroundings
The beauty of Cornwall during winter is truly unique. The county’s long sandy beaches and charming little coves provide endless photo opportunities, and the snaps are guaranteed to leave your Instagram followers green with envy.
Tregenna recommends: As you’d expect, the beaches are a lot quieter in the winter. Both the Blue Flag Award-winning Porthmeor Beach and Harbour Beach are popular spots for photographers.
Festive markets
Offering a treasure trove of handmade goods, Christmas markets are the perfect place to pick up last-minute gifts for your loved ones. Plus, there are usually plenty of opportunities to enjoy a sip of mulled wine as you get into the seasonal spirit.
