Beyond the beach (toys)
How giving a new life to abandoned beach toys helped raise almost £500 for charity
Here at Tregenna, our team is always looking for new ways to help local charities and make a difference in the community.
And when father and daughter duo, Chris and Niamh (who work in our maintenance and F&B teams) saw that lots of surfboards, wind breaks, and other beach bits and bobs were being left behind by guests after check-out, they came up with a clever idea to give the toys a new life at our local caravan park.
Chris found that everything from buckets and spades to boogie boards was showing up at the maintenance office - the majority of which was kindly donated by guests before heading home. To help encourage more reusing and recycling, and cut down the amount of plastic pollution on Cornwall’s beaches, he (with the help of Niamh) decided to donate the items to the nearby caravan park at Godrevy where they could be hired by guests for a small donation to charity.
The response from those staying at the caravan club has been overwhelming, with lots of people also eager to not only minimise their environmental footprint but give something back to the local community. As a result, over the last few months, the team has raised £464.78 for the Cornwall Air Ambulance!
Great work, guys!

The Sweet Buzz of Sustainability: Beehives at Tregenna Castle Resort
27 June 2024
Nestled within our expansive 72-acre resort are now four hives, home to thousands of honey bees. We’re thrilled to bolster our sustainability efforts, which will benefit the environment, the local community (once honey production begins), and the resort itself. Bees play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity. As pollinators, they are responsible for the reproduction of many plant species, which in turn supports a wide range of wildlife. By hosting beehives, Tregenna Castle Resort contributes to the health of local ecosystems. The presence of bees ensures the proliferation of native flowers and plants, fostering a rich and diverse habitat for other insects, birds, and small mammals.
