Celebrating World Environment Day at Tregenna Castle
As we celebrate World Environment Day this June, Tregenna Castle proudly showcases its unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Nestled on the picturesque hill above St Ives harbour, Tregenna Castle stands as an iconic resort, renowned for its timeless charm and 250 years of excellence. As we celebrate this milestone in 2024, we also reflect on our journey towards a greener, more sustainable future.
A Legacy of Excellence and Sustainability
For centuries, Tregenna Castle has offered a diverse range of accommodations, including hotel rooms, apartments, and self-catering properties. Our guests enjoy breath-taking views, exceptional hospitality, and outstanding dining options at Godrevy View Restaurant and Olives Bar. With the versatile Trelawney function space, we cater to weddings, corporate events, and more, all set against the stunning backdrop of our subtropical gardens, woodlands, and extensive leisure facilities.

Central to our environmental efforts is the TreGREENer initiative, which embodies our commitment to sustainability. Our recent investments in renewable energy include the introduction of a 250 kW solar farm and a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) turbine. These installations not only produce electricity and heat more efficiently but also significantly reduce our carbon footprint and operational costs. The solar farm and CHP turbine ensure a greener future for generations to come, with the solar farm integrated seamlessly into our lush grounds, allowing wildlife to thrive alongside our energy infrastructure.
Preserving Our Natural Habitat
Our 72-acre estate is home to a diverse array of plant and wildlife species. Recognising the need to modernise our energy systems, we opted for sustainable solutions that benefit both our guests and the environment. The CHP turbine was strategically placed on existing brownfield land, and the solar farm is situated on a grassy area that supports wildlife integration. This thoughtful approach ensures that we maintain the natural beauty and ecological balance of our surroundings
Community and Local Partnerships
Tregenna Castle's commitment to sustainability extends beyond our resort. We actively collaborate with local suppliers, tradespeople, and organisations to support the local economy and community. Partnerships with Tate St Ives, Polgoon Vineyard, Cornish Seal Sanctuary, Paradise Park, St. Ives Museum and St Ives Surf School allow our guests to experience the rich cultural and natural heritage of the region. We also proudly sponsor local events and charities, such as the St Ives September Festival, St Ives Food Festivals, Cornwall Air Ambulance, and Charlie's Star charities.
Sustainable practices and future goals
Our dedication to sustainability is reflected in our innovative energy solutions, eco-friendly accommodations, and community engagement. Recent projects include the completion of the Castle Village development, featuring energy-efficient homes with solar panels and air source vents. The transformation of our Coach House properties into Courtyard rooms caters to modern guest preferences while increasing revenue and occupancy rates.
Moreover, our apprenticeship program with HIT Training equips our staff with valuable skills and qualifications, enhancing their careers and ensuring exceptional guest service. By bringing social media management in-house, we've seen significant growth in online engagement, demonstrating the positive impact of our strategic initiatives.
As we celebrate World Environment Day, Tregenna Castle reaffirms its commitment to sustainability, innovation, and community. Our ongoing efforts to reduce our environmental impact and support local partnerships underscore our dedication to preserving the natural beauty of St Ives for future generations. Join us in celebrating this special day and experience the timeless charm of Tregenna Castle, where luxury and sustainability go hand in hand.

The Sweet Buzz of Sustainability: Beehives at Tregenna Castle Resort
27 June 2024
Nestled within our expansive 72-acre resort are now four hives, home to thousands of honey bees. We’re thrilled to bolster our sustainability efforts, which will benefit the environment, the local community (once honey production begins), and the resort itself. Bees play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity. As pollinators, they are responsible for the reproduction of many plant species, which in turn supports a wide range of wildlife. By hosting beehives, Tregenna Castle Resort contributes to the health of local ecosystems. The presence of bees ensures the proliferation of native flowers and plants, fostering a rich and diverse habitat for other insects, birds, and small mammals.
