4 things to do on the South West Coast this Autumn
As the leaves begin to fall from the trees and all the beaches grow quieter, there’s no better place to enjoy the fresh autumn breeze than Cornwall.
So we’ve compiled a list of some of our favourite things to do in Cornwall as we transition into autumn all less than an hour away from Tregenna Castle.
A stroll along the coast
There are hundreds of incredible walks in Cornwall, but here are some of the best we found near St Ives.
A stroll to Godrevy Head. This is a two-mile walk beginning at Three Mile Beach, the perfect walk to take in the views of St Ives bay and the lighthouse. In autumn especially, you’ll see flocks of migrating sea birds and might even spot some seals. Some of our lucky guests have even been lucky enough to see a pod of dolphins and whale breaches too!
A one-hour walk to Lelant from St Ives is perfect if you need to stretch your legs. Beginning at St Ives railway station and walking above the railway line, stopping at Carbis Bay for a break if you wish, before continuing along the coastal path towards Porthkidney Sands.
Find a hidden coffee shop gem
After a long walk, there’s nothing better than a piping hot cup of tea and a toasted sandwich to warm you up again. Here are some of our favourite spots.
You’ll find this pretty little cafe on the Hayle Nature Reserve with breathtaking views of the estuary all day long. Open seven days a week, this cafe has an ever bright airy vintage style and incredible scenery that’s ever changing with the tide.
A brilliant spot for anyone with little ones, with an incredible menu of food from brunch to burgers (Oh, and a well-deserved round of applause for the massive range or Gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options). And of course, not to forget plenty of sweet treats and cups of tea.
Spooky season events
For those with little ones or anyone who just loves the spooky season, here are some of the Halloween events going on around the area throughout October.
Halloween half term at Flambards
The beloved Cornish theme park is hosting an array of spooky events during the October half-term. From a pumpkin trail to Halloween parade and the award-winning Firework Spooktacular.
The famous Eden project are introducing their brand new Twilight Halloween Experience where you can venture deep into the rainforest biome for a bewitching torchlit trail. There’s also plenty of other fun activities during the day such a web-weaving workshop, a puppet show and pumpkin carving.
Ride some waves
Believe it or not, autumn is a popular time for hitting the waves. The sea is still warm from the summer months, the beaches are quieter, and there are plenty of waves that promise an adrenaline rush for seasoned surfers. So, here are a few of the best stuffing coves:
This stunning long beach is a hotspot for surfers all year round, with a long-stretched shore , huge blue rollers all over, and safe flagged areas, making it a great place for children to enjoy some time at the seaside.
Only ten minutes away from Hayle, this beach is a great place for learning and practising your surfing skills. With a surf shop, cafe and well-trained lifeguard service, it’s a local surfing haven, and ideal for wind surfing.
