Laura and Sam: Our Cornish coastal wedding
Photographer: Toby Lowe
We love hearing first-hand about couples who’ve tied the knot at Tregenna. And the lovely Laura and Sam, who were married here this summer, took some time out to tell us about their oh-so-magical celebrations at the castle.
West Cornwall has always held a special place in my heart and when I was looking for the perfect partner, one thing of great importance was that he equally shared the love and joy of Cornwall with me so we could create lots of special memories together. As a couple, we fell deeper in love with the county, in particular, St Ives and Carbis Bay, visiting twice each year and enjoying the hobby we discovered together – hiking!
Sam popped the question in March 2020 at Carbis Bay beach when we were in the middle of a hike.
Tregenna Castle caught our eye a few days after our engagement on a wet rainy day on the way back from another hike. We always dreamed of tying the knot in Cornwall and Tregenna was just magnificent. Even on a rainy day the venue looked spectacular and had everything to offer: the castle grounds, beautiful walled gardens and views of St Ives.
Being lovers of the countryside and spending so much time outdoors, an outdoor ceremony in the pavilion was an absolute must, and, from the moment we booked the venue, we had our fingers crossed for dry weather and couldn’t wait for our special day.
As it turns out, we’d planned it all perfectly. We were incredibly lucky not to have to postpone our wedding due to COVID and our chosen date was the first weekend after the lifting of COVID restrictions!
Our day in pictures...
Wedding preparations started bright and early at 7am in the bridal suite at Tregenna Castle.
My dad and I went for a ride around St Ives in the VW campervan.
The weather stayed dry, and we were able to have the outdoor ceremony we’d been dreaming of.
We hopped in the campervan after the ceremony with a glass of bubbly and headed off to Rosewall Hill for a mini hike and some quality time together as husband and wife.
Then, we returned to mingle with our family and friends on the lawn with canapes – mini fish and chips, cream teas and Moomaid Ice Cream which was delicious. The wedding breakfast, speeches and cake cutting then followed.
Our first dance was a salsa to Bill Withers’ ‘Lovely Day’.
Later on in the evening, we enjoyed sparklers and a spectacular fireworks display with our guests.
Tregenna Castle is a spectacular wedding venue, and we would like to thank all the staff at Tregenna for ensuring our day was special and everything ran smoothly. Staff went above and beyond for us and their passion for weddings shone through. A big shout out to Stephane who made our wedding breakfast so enjoyable and fun.
