Family holidays are all about getting out and about and spending quality time together. But let’s face it, the great British weather can let us down sometimes. With this in mind, here are five of our favourite family-friendly attractions that are perfect for rainy days.
Tate St Ives
The Tate St Ives is not only the perfect place to visit come rain or shine, but it also happens to be right on our doorstep. The ever-changing exhibitions, featuring everything from modern art to light installations, are guaranteed to brighten up the greyest of days. Plus, there are always plenty of activities for little ones to get stuck into such as games and arts and crafts.
The Eden Project
Where better to shelter from the showers than an enormous indoor rainforest? At The Eden Project, you and the kids can explore vibrant, tropical rainforests and search for fascinating plant life in the Mediterranean landscapes without even leaving Cornwall. Plus, their family activities and events during school holidays are always top notch.
The Shipwreck Treasure Museum at Charlestown
Home to a range of artefacts from over 150 shipwrecks, The Shipwreck Treasure Museum is guaranteed to occupy intrepid adventurers on wet and blustery days. Embark on a seafaring voyage through history that includes fascinating exhibitions, a treasure hunt around the museum, and a visit to The Lusty Pirate for a hearty lunch.
Carnglaze Caverns
On the southern edge of Bodmin Moor you’ll find the Carnglaze Caverns – a 300-year-old former slate mine with a crystal clear underground lake. These beautifully lit caverns are the ideal place to shelter from the elements. And if the rain does clear up, you can head back above ground and explore the ancient woodland.
Land’s End
There’s more to Land’s End than the iconic white signpost. The attraction now features a 4D cinema, petting farm, Aardman interactive experience, and lots of places to shop and eat. Land’s End always hosts additional family-friendly events throughout school holidays, so you’re bound to find plenty to keep the little ones busy during your visit.
