It’s not long now until the summer holidays begin, which means there’s no time like the present to start planning those fun-filled family days out. We’ve put together some of our favourite things to do, including one or two ways to enjoy yourselves if the weather happens to be a little less sunny than expected.
Hit the beach
Cornwall is pretty well-known for its spectacular beaches, and we’ve got a couple of favourites that we’d recommend visiting. Just a short walk from our front door, and the many cafés and beach huts of St Ives, is Porthmeor Beach – a popular spot with surfers. Another unmissable destination is Kynance Cove, boasting dreamy white sands, beautiful turquoise waters, and incredible caves and rock formations.
Take a dip
We’ve got you covered whatever the weather with two on-site swimming pools. On a hot summer’s day, our outdoor swimming pool is the perfect place to soak up the sun, enjoy a refreshing drink, and work on your tan. And if you happen to encounter a rainy day or two during your stay, head inside and make the most of our heated indoor pool.
Watch a play
Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the world-famous Minack Theatre has been used to stage performances for more than 80 years. Each summer a fantastic programme of productions runs between May and September, including musicals, dramas, and operatic performances. Explore the upcoming performances, buy yourself a ticket and get ready to experience this unique Cornish venue.
Entertain the little ones
Come rain or shine, Paradise Park is the perfect destination for a day of family fun. With more than 650 different birds to meet, as well as red pandas, donkeys, and otters, the little ones will be thoroughly entertained. There’s also the indoor JungleBarn play centre, which includes a soft play area and ball pool. For mum and dad, the Otter Pool Café offers the perfect retreat to enjoy a slice of cake with a cup of tea.
Discover the giant
One of Cornwall’s most legendary and well-known destinations, St Michael’s Mount, was apparently once home to a giant. In fact, according to local legend, you can still hear the faint heartbeat of the giant if you stand on the heart-shaped stone that can be found on the stairs leading up to the castle.
Explore St Ives
From beautiful cobbled streets to unique boutique shops, there’s so much waiting to be discovered in St Ives. Sampling a traditional Cornish pasty during your trip is a must, and is something that’s best enjoyed overlooking the view of St Ives Bay. If you’re in the mood for a little culture, then Tate St Ives is well worth a visit, boasting an ever-changing selection of fantastic exhibits.
